Couple Psychotherapy

The Therapeutic Approach

I will be the voice for ‘the relationship’. I will support you to develop greater awareness and understanding of yourself and your partner, considering how your individual internal responses play a role in conflict and possible feelings of being misunderstood and of rejection. Finding different ways of communicating; ways which are respectful to yourself, your partner and your relationship, will enable you and your partner to move forward, together, with a greater sense of clarity, trust, and intimacy.

What to Expect

I will draw upon a range of therapeutic approaches and together we will learn which approaches work best for you as an individual and as a couple! At times the session may explore the thoughts and feelings of one whilst the other becomes an active observer through listening and learning. The focus of the therapy will always remain on the “couple”.

My Role

I will play an active role within the therapy in the following ways:
• I will strive to build a therapeutic relationship which is based on trust, empathy and honesty
• I will be an objective observer and when necessary the voice for ‘the couple’
• I will say what I see and when appropriate I will challenge
• I will stop you if I believe the space no longer feels a ‘safe’.
